The Connecting Bridge Between the Department of New and Old Civil Engineering at Tsinghua University

The corridor bridge connecting the old and new pavilions of Tsinghua University Civil Engineering Department was designed with Spare GFRP panels as permanent formwork for the bridge deck. This design choice was made due to the GFRP material's advantageous properties of light weight, easy construction, and high durability compared to traditional pressed steel permanent formwork. During installation, the GFRP panels are placed on the secondary girders and secured with bolts to the upper flange of the secondary girders. The edges of the bridge deck are outfitted with formwork or sealed with plastic to prevent concrete spillage during pouring. Once the GFRP bars are positioned, concrete is poured, and the GFRP panels can be transported manually without the need for crane equipment. The GFRP panels can be cut and drilled on site to fit actual size requirements, and no harsh anti-corrosion measures are necessary post-installation.
