Hollow Decking
Description
Rama VIII Bridge in Bangkok, opened in 2001, spans the Chao Phraya River. It has a 475-meter main bridge with a 300-meter main span, totaling 2,480 meters. The deck load is 2.5 KN/m².
For this large steel structure bridge, GFRP (Glass Fiber Reinforced Polymer) pultruded hollow panels are used to create a closed enclosure around the previously exposed steel beams under the bridge deck. This application serves multiple purposes: reducing wind resistance, lowering maintenance costs, and enhancing the aesthetic appearance of the bridge.
